T Hinges (also refered to as Tee Hinges) are Hand Forged by master craftsmen on an anvil and are faithful reproductions of classic British designs. The hinges are hot forged i.e. drawn to shape, not welded or fabricated. The hinge knuckle is fashioned in the traditional way which makes it very strong.

T hinges (Tee Hinges) have been in existence since the late 17th century and although there are many styles of T hinge available on the market today the basic design has always stayed the same, a long hinge arm which tapered to an extremely thin neck with either a decorative end or a round penny end.

Mostly T hinges are used to carry large external and internal oak doors, ledged and braced doors, planked doors etc. but are also increasingly being used on a smaller scale for wardrobe doors in bedrooms, hand crafted cupboard doors in kitchens and on more decorative furniture like chests.

There are other types of T hinge available including Hook and Band Hinges, Barn Door Hook and Band Hinges, Band and Spike Hinges which are commonly used for much heavier, bigger doors where the fixing plate (hook or spike) is a separate item and usually needs to be morticed into the framework of the door.

When choosing what size of T hinge to use on your door we recommend that the hinge should reach two thirds of the way across the door and that a pair of hinges should suffice for even the heaviest of oak doors.
