A History of From The Anvil

1996

Humble Beginnings

The ‘From the Anvil’ journey began in 1996 when ex-metal-work teacher and joiner Mark Underhill bought a small business called MF Supplies. Mark and his wife Bernadette started to sell ironmongery and fixings to joiners and builders from their family home in a small village in Mid-Wales. In 1998, not content with the current product choice, Mark designed his own range of traditional, handmade ironmongery. These products were made from solid steel, and hand forged on an Anvil to give them unrivalled strength and a wealth of character.

2000

The Launch of Anvil

In 2000, the 'From the Anvil' brand was launched with around fifty handmade products. Soon, the business outgrew the small garage in Dolau and was moved to a unit in the small town of Llandrindod Wells.

2002

Stockist Outreach

From The Anvil extended their range of handmade hardware and in 2002, when they reached 250 products, they started selling through a network of stockists. Today, we're proud to be the largest exclusive From The Anvil stockist in the UK.

2005

The Blacksmith Collection

In 2005, From The Anvil officially launched their Blacksmith Collection which included handmade hardware manufactured from mild steel using traditional forging methods.

2008

The Period Collection

In 2008, From The Anvil announced their Period Collection which included handmade door, window, and cabinet hardware forged from solid brass and bronze, both in new and existing styles.

2015

Bespoke Pendant Lighting

From The Anvil's premises continued to grow and this additional space enabled them to embark on creating custom pendant lighting. These pendants are manufactured from the same high-quality metals that From The Anvil is known for and are hand-finished in Mid-Wales. Because each pendant is made-to-order, these lights are completely bespoke and can be coated in any colour desired.

2022

Marine Stainless Steel

Hand forged from grade 316 Marine Stainless Steel, this exciting release introduced a range of products designed to withstand even the harshest environments. Having surpassed over 1,000 hours of salt-testing, both Polished and Satin Marine Stainless Steel products are suitable for use in coastal and polluted areas and, when properly cared for, will last for years to come.

2024

The Present Day
